And here we are again: another year has passed and so has another Easter week-end. How much meaning does Easter even have anymore? Do people still celebrate it at all?
Maybe not as perfect as in the photo above, but almost. Today I'm talking about my idea of Easter and how I keep it small and cozy.

A quick throwback: as a kid, the big highlight for us was chocolate eggs. Those oval-shaped, little filled things. Delicious, right? For a chocolate lover like me, of course one of the best things of the year! I'm talking about fresh, crispy chocolate and I emphasize: freshly made chocolate. The taste of fresh seasonal chocolate is hard to beat. Nicely wrapped in golden paper with little decorations – cute!

But besides chocolate, there are also gifts. In my family, it's a tradition that especially the kids get presents. Still, I don't think gifts for everyone are a bad idea either, it is a holiday with Christian tradition after all. We all know the story of the Easter Bunny, many people go to church or to a restaurant. The standard, honestly… Then there are those who go to horse races or play cricket. Subtle and superficial, but at least something.

For me, Easter isn't an outstanding day, but more like a break from daily trouble, I'd say. Some time with family, sometimes painting eggs, sometimes not… As a child, I used to paint eggs a lot, but that was a long time ago, and we mostly dipped them in color rather than actually painting them. I like eggs as fried eggs or boiled for about 3–4 minutes, when they reach that perfect texture. 🍳 That's why I'm not too enthusiastic about egg painting, since I prefer eating eggs warm

So if you don't feel like painting eggs, I totally get it, because there are also those great surprise eggs. My parents often brought me one from Italy, those Kinder Uovo di Pasqua with surprises, usually characters from series. What I like even more is filling and molding chocolate eggs yourself, as long as you find the right pastry shop willing to do it, haha. A really nice idea to make your loved ones happy.

But this year I'm keeping things very simple. Like every year, we have fresh Colomba in all variations. My favorite? Definitely the Colomba senza canditi. It offers an aromatic experience and honestly tastes much better than panettone – so don't overdo it.

Did I forget something? Yes! Modesty during this time. The beautiful weather that invites you outside, the bright sun and the bee stings.

Down here, you can see a picture of my Easter decoration this year, also rather subtle, I'd say. I kept it simple, as the German saying goes: Weniger ist mehr. I'll share a few of my decoration tips, kind of like a small DIY guide for you!

  1. Easter motifs as mini photos! This year I also found matching photo holders and I think they add a bit of spontaneity to the room.
  2. Small and thin figures! They don't feel overwhelming and fit well into table decoration. Since I've kept things spatially minimal, I tried using less decor. It also helps to think space-saving.
  3. Decorative eggs! I think they're great for that seasonal flair. They really set the atmosphere and especially in gold they look very refined.
  4. Baskets! The more abstract, the better. It doesn't have to be a classic woven basket. I got a metal one a few years ago and it works just fine.
  5. Don't forget coasters! No matter the season, I never go without them. They protect your wooden surfaces from dirt and discoloration and help with structure. This way the space doesn't feel overcrowded and the decor is evenly distributed.
